Urgent Call to Ugandans in Saudi Arabia: FUMWA Announces Amnesty Updates.

Dated: October 22, 2024

In a significant development for Ugandan migrant workers, the Federation of Ugandan Migrant Workers Associations (FUMWA) has issued an urgent press statement addressing the plight of Ugandans currently detained in Saudi Arabia. This announcement comes on the heels of a diplomatic visit by Minister Esther Anyakun, who has confirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has agreed to pardon many Ugandan nationals stranded in deportation centers and prisons.

Current Situation of Ugandans Abroad.

The conditions faced by many Ugandans in Saudi Arabia have been dire, with numerous individuals held in detention centers under challenging and often inhumane circumstances. Reports indicate that these workers have been subjected to harsh treatment, exacerbating their vulnerabilities in a foreign land. While the recent amnesty excludes those convicted of capital offenses, such as drug trafficking, it brings a glimmer of hope for many others who have found themselves entangled in legal troubles.FUMWA is calling on all Ugandans currently stuck in various locations across Saudi Arabia to come forward and report their status. The organization urges individuals to reach out through their relatives or directly contact FUMWA at0700775501. This outreach is crucial for facilitating access to the amnesty and ensuring safe returns home for those affected.

Acknowledgment of Minister Esther Anyakun

FUMWA extends its heartfelt gratitude to Minister Esther Anyakun for her unwavering commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of Ugandan migrant workers. Her recent efforts to secure amnesty reflect a profound understanding of the challenges faced by these individuals abroad. Minister Anyakun's transparency regarding the complexities involved—especially concerning those facing capital charges—has been instrumental in fostering trust and hope among affected families.

Clarification on FUMWA’s Position

In light of recent developments, FUMWA wishes to clarify its position as the legitimate national umbrella body representing Ugandan migrant workers. The organization has encountered attempts by a parallel group to mislead the public regarding its role and mission. FUMWA remains steadfast in its dedication to advocating for the rights and welfare of all Ugandan migrant workers, ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs addressed.

As this critical situation unfolds, FUMWA calls upon all Ugandans residing in Saudi Arabia to report their circumstances immediately. The organization emphasizes that collective action is essential to ensure that every citizen receives the support they need during this challenging time. FUMWA is committed to continuing its advocacy efforts, striving for the safety and rights of all Ugandan migrant workers. For further information or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact FUMWA directly. Together, we can work towards a brighter future for all Ugandan nationals abroad.
